From the cradle to the coffin, underwear comes first” – Bertolt Brecht

If your underwear could speak to you, what do you think it would say?
It’s an odd question to open up a conversation with I know, but one worth pondering. As an Image Consultant I see a lot of bad underwear and believe me, it’s not a pretty sight! Sometimes I can almost hear knickers shouting, “help, my elastic’s gone missing” or bra’s wailing “I’ve lost my support”! I know it sounds funny, but seriously, your underwear is more important than you think and when it comes to looking good, should never be underestimated. Your lingerie provides the foundations upon which your whole outfit rests and get it wrong and it can ruin your entire look.

bra styles black and leopard printOften when I ask a client “when was the last time you were measured for a bra” – it’s usually met with an embarrassed and sheepish, “I can’t remember”. So now I ask you, when was the last time YOU were fitted for a bra? If your answer sits in the ‘2-5 years’ category, make it the first stop on your next shopping trip. It’s recommended that you get fitted every 6 months and at an absolute maximum, 2 years. I would be willing to bet that you’re wearing a bra that is too big in the back and too small in the cup which is more often than not the case. I can’t tell you the amount of times a client comes back to me after going for a fitting and tells me they were wearing completely the wrong size and now that they’re wearing the right one, look like they’ve had a boob job minus the pain and expense! You will instantly look taller, slimmer and have more of a defined waistline and boobs that look a lot happier and perkier and as a result your clothes will look much more flattering! If you would like recommendations of where to go for a quality fitting, drop me an email at karen@karenl.co.uk, I’d be honoured to help and I promise you, you won’t be disappointed.

bra styles, push up, lace, plunge
With a certain date coming up in February it could be the perfect gift from someone you love, and that includes yourself. There are lots of styles around that perform in different ways so it’s worth investigating and trying a variety of them on to see what they do for you, as every woman is different and what works for one person won’t for another. Me personally, I can’t wear a plunge bra but love a balconette, but for many women this style helps to give a much needed push in the right direction! Lingerie not only performs a very worthwhile function but can also make you feel god damn sexy and I for one, am all for that! I love knowing that I’m wearing a gorgeous lace set underneath a scruffy weekend outfit – it’s my little secret that gives me a kick of confidence when I need it and that no-one else needs know about. So, get your tired pants and loose bras off to your nearest lingerie specialist and embrace an uplifted, prouder and perkier new you!
